Compass Consulting was founded in 2013 as a direct response to the lack of high-level strategic and practical knowledge about Broad-Based Black Economic Empowerment (B-BBEE) in the market. By combining strategic competencies from within the Human Resource stable and extensive knowledge from within the Finance and Investments market, we are able to provide unique and creative solutions that realises the highest amount of scoring under a specific scorecard that also contributes overall to the strategic objectives of the Company.

FIRST-TIME BEE
IMPLEMENTATION

More and more companies that have previously not been rated under BEE have realised the need to stay competitive in this area. Compass Consulting has assisted numerous companies that are embarking on this process for the very first time. Although this process might seem daunting at first, we are able to provide clarity and a long-term strategy to ensure that this process brings about the highest possible rating without any anxiety or confusion. From starting data collection to choosing the right verification agency, we can assist every step of the way.

B-BBEE SHARE OWNERSHIP ANALYSIS

As a result of specific restrictions under the B-BBEE codes of Good Practice, companies with public share ownership face a unique problem: they are unable to verify the racial and gender demographics of all of their shareholders. This is partly a result of the constantly changing ownership particulars in a free-trade share environment, but also due to the mammoth task of approaching individual shareholders for this information.

Fortunately, the Codes of Good Practice allows for a company such as Compass Consulting, deemed to be a “competent person” under the Codes, to analyse the share register and compile a report reflecting both the race and gender demographics in the form of a “Competent Persons Report”.

By combining demographic analyses based on information derived from the Census 2001 Statistics SA survey and independent research with the use of CIPC, websites, publicly available information and verified B-BBEE certificates, we are able to construct a high-level view of the racial and gender ownership percentages in any public company, even down to individual investors. From this high-level view, we are able to do comparative market analysis and formulate appropriate suggestions for review (Employee Share Ownership Schemes, Strategic Partnerships, etc.) where we assist with everything from design to implementation.

Several clients have benefited from a steady hand at the helm during this time – whether you are merely doing projections for a specific intervention or staring down a verification audit of a 2000 employee strong company, we are able to lead or support you through any of these daunting processes.

STRATEGIC INTERVENTIONS

Where others see obstacles, we see opportunities. By analysing previous scorecards or developing projections on future scoring, we are able to address areas of greatest concern by constructing specific targeted interventions to realise the possible scoring under that element. Examples of targeted B-BBEE interventions includes skills development and training, where we assist companies in planning and structuring formal training interventions funded entirely by SETA grants and realising significant tax returns for the company and enterprise development.
