IMPLEMENTATION
 
More and more companies that have previously not been rated under BEE have realised the need to stay competitive in this area. Compass Consulting has assisted numerous companies that are embarking on this process for the very first time. B-BBEE SHARE OWNERSHIP ANALYSIS


As a result of specific restrictions under the B-BBEE codes of Good Practice, companies with public share ownership face a unique problem: they are unable to verify the racial and gender demographics of all of their shareholders. This is partly a result of the constantly changing ownership particulars in a free-trade share environment, but also due to the mammoth task of approaching individual shareholders for this information.

Fortunately, the Codes of Good Practice allows for a company such as Compass Consulting, deemed to be a “competent person” under the Codes, to analyse the share register and compile a report reflecting both the race and gender demographics in the form of a “Competent Persons Report”.

By combining demographic analyses based on information derived from the Census 2001 Statistics SA survey and independent research with the use of CIPC, websites, publicly available information and verified B-BBEE certificates, we are able to construct a high-level view of the racial and gender ownership percentages in any public company, even down to individual investors. From this high-level view, we are able to do comparative market analysis and formulate appropriate suggestions for review (Employee Share Ownership Schemes, Strategic Partnerships, etc.) where we assist with everything from design to implementation.
